Causes of Jakarta Flood, Activities Residents Participate Contribute
Head of the National Disaster Management Agency (BNPB) Willem Rampangilei said, there are a number of factors that cause Jakarta area flooded. One of them caused by cyclical changes in annual rainfall in Indonesia.

Willem said the change was due to the rainfall cycle of the El Nino phenomenon in 2015 and La Nina in 2016. According to him, the rain cycle in Jakarta will take place until March 2017.
“Anticipating (rainy season) so it’s our priority. Moreover, it will continue to rain in Jakarta until the end of March. April will enter a transition period changes in the weather,” he said.
In addition to precipitation, said Willem, floods in Jakarta are also due to several other factors.
“The flood was caused by the first natural conditions, which includes geography, topography, geometry and location of the flow of the river.”
“Secondly, because of precipitation, including tidal and declining soil surface once-silting silting. Third, the factors of human activity itself,” said Willem.
Willem said, community activities in Jakarta today, according to him, triggering floods. For one thing, many of the building of settlements in the riverbanks.
“The settlements are still many around the river. Moreover floodplain area designation has not been fulfilled.”
